See How That Might Be

black cabbage live shows

Anarchy! One thing you must know: this is a band to see live. It can be confusing, chaotic, it can be loud. Eight people with noisy instruments don't make chamber music, nor is this 3-chord pop.

But the moments of clarity will flatten you just as surely as the wall of noise. The music rewards attention. If you open your ears and listen, you will be glad you came. If you rise to your feet and dance, you will be back.

14 June 96 Sudbury, The Townehouse. This should open some Sudburian eyes. Almost %100 confirmed.

14-20 June 96 Possible gigs in Thunder Bay, Brandon, Regina, Calgary. Nibbles in the Peg, the Soo, Banff.

20 June 96 Edmonton, The Sawmill. Mostly confirmed and quite exciting.

Fri-Sun 21-23 Jun 96 At the North County Fair in Joussard, Alberta. A bit of a change from the 360 on Queen St. West! This one is four hours north of Edmonton. Wahoo! They'll likely be in Sudbury and then Thunder Bay the weekend before that (14-16 Jun 96). If you're following the career of the band, this gig means they got the Canada Council grant! Wahoo again!

27 June 96 Vancouver, The Railway Club. They'll be opening for a band from Van, we don't know the name yet... Anyone?

14 July 96 Tentatively hoping for a homecoming gig at Harbourfront!
Update 13 May 96: July 14 date at Harborfront confirmed for the road-weary Cabbageheads (we get back the day before). We go on at 2PM, followed by Ron Sexsmith. (The words of Michael.)

31 May - 1 June 96 Michael says: "at the Terra Dactyl on the lovely waterfront of Windsor. An extremely cool bar, run by extremely cool people." I think he may be being sarcastic about the waterfront, and probably serious about the bar.

17 May 96 Michael says: "the horseshoe was duly impressed by may 1 show and invited us back to open up a friday night, opening for Edmonton's Captain Tractor and Ottawa's Watercan. They're billing it as some kind of Celtic night..." The 'Shoe remains a great place to see music, even if they don't really know what Celtic means (although I did see Ashley MacIsaac there...)

11 May 96 Guelph Street Party! They're shutting down Macdonnell Street for the weekend, it seems. Performances begin Friday night with House of Velvet headlining. The cabbage will be on Saturday, along with Corduroy Leda. Why don't we do it in the road?

1 May 96 At the Horseshoe, on Queen St. West at Spadina. With The Immigrants and Artichokes. Cabbage should be on second, i.e. 23h00 to 0h00. Well, that's what we thought but they closed it. Didn't see to many Guelph types but I saw lots of happy dancers. Sound was good, band was a little scattered but enjoying themselves. Did you know Sheila lives in Toronto? For shame!

19 Apr 96 About 13h00, the band will wow'em in Kitchener-Waterloo at the anti-Harris rally. Be there or be cut.

Thurs 18 Apr 96 At Peter Clark Hall in Guelph. With House of Velvet; this will be a seamless HOV/BC show, with the transition being a jam that may well expand the definition of the term "funky"... Watch for the killer horn section.

Date Forgotten At C'est What? in Toronto. This front street bar is a great place to see a band, I highly recommend it. Bob Wiseman kicked ass there in 95 for the North By NorthEast festival. Cabbages have never played there before.

Thurs 22 Feb 96 at the Cameron House. That's a bar on Queen St. West in Toronto. The venue is in the back, and the sound is good. Judging from the turnout at the 360 last month, this will sell out. Capacity around 100. 408 Queen W.Toronto. (416) 364-0811

Wed 28 Feb 96 at the Ultrasound, opening for People From Earth. The Ultrasound has the best acoustics for a live band in Toronto. Capacity around 250. Above XRay's, 269 Queen W. Toronto. (416) 593-0540

The following is the voice of Michael Barclay, until I get a chance to edit this up.

14 Mar 96 in ottawa at carleton university. we got this gig through matrix, a booking agency which might sign us on if we do well on a couple of trial gigs like this one. cool! better venues, better pay, steady work! can't go wrong.

15 Mar 96 w/ king cobb steelie and maybe jack soul at pch at UoG. it's a benefit for GIRC.

23 Mar 96 at the 360 again. a return engagement! the last show was my favourite cabbage gig ever held in toronto. julia propeller is opening. brenda mcmorrow from julia propeller has an uncle who was my favourite english teacher in high school, so we're going to try and get him to come out. i'm very excited.

17 Apr 96 (tentative) at pch at UoG end of exams bash kind of thing.
